The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has awarded a total of 150 million euros in the second call of the H2 Pioneers programme to 12 innovative projects focused on the joint production and use of renewable hydrogen. These projects are mostly to be developed in industry, heavy transport and other such hard-to-abate sectors.

Chief amongst the projects selected is the so-called HyBizkaia E-Fuels and Mobility project of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor, promoted by Petronor, EVE and Enagas Renovables. This project consists of setting up a 10 MW capacity alkaline electrolyser to produce renewable. The hydrogen generated will be used in the manufacturing of synthetic fuels and for mobility, both for passengers and freight, which will be supplied by hydrogen refueling stations

The project led by Basque Hydrogen, which has been awarded a grant of more than 13 million euros, boasts an integrated model for the production of renewable hydrogen from renewable sources and the application of that hydrogen in nearby industrial processes. This milestone represents a further step forward in the energy transition towards the goal of decarbonising key industrial sectors.
